Stewart Phillip Barro, 64, of Waimea, formerly of Kenai, Alaska, died April 9 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Pahala, he was an oil-rig chef and U.S. Army veteran. Survived by father, Phillip Barro of Waimea; brother, Anthony “Masay” Barro of Naalehu; sisters, Debbie Gacayan of Las Vegas and Liane (Willy) Barro-Kilmede of Waimea; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Lily Namakaoka‘ia Ha‘anio Kong, 93, of Keauhou died June 7 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Keauhou, she was a retired supervisor at HCEOC, former chairperson for the Hawaii Burial Council and a Hawaiian cultural advocate. Celebration of life at a later date. Charles “Chuck” K. Makanui Jr., 65, of Kailua-Kona died June 2. Born in Hilo, he was a hospitality worker, performer, U.S. Air Force Vietnam War veteran and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kona 2nd Ward.
